Schools using Tahoma

Like Verdana and Georgia, Tahoma was designed for the Microsoft Corporation by British type designer Matthew Carter. It was originally released in 1994 with Windows 95. Shipping as a standard font on the majority of PCs as the Internet came of age in the late 90s, Tahoma established itself as a go-to sans-serif option for the web. Like Verdana, Carter based the design on the earlier Frutiger to some degree, but Tahoma took shape as a narrower, more compact typeface. Replacing MS Sans Serif, Tahoma was the default screen font used by Windows 2000, Windows XP, and Windows Server 2003. It was also used for Sega's Dreamcast and Skype. Tahoma is still widely used as an alternative to Arial. The name Tahoma comes from the Native American name for Mt. Rainier, a prominent feature visible in the Seattle-area skyline near Microsoft's headquarters.
